BILL JACKSON
Bill Jackson has been a professional archivist for 30 years. His graduate-school internship was in the Harley-Davidson Archives. He rejoined Harley-Davidson’s Archives team in 1998 and was integral in preparing the historical collections for public exhibit.
The H-D Archives go back to the 1910s and its team leads the collection and preservation of the history of Harley-Davidson. They identify and acquire significant vehicles and artifacts to support the museum’s exhibits, research, and Motor Company projects. Bill considers himself very fortunate to lead a dynamic and dedicated group that has been charged with such an awesome responsibility.
JOHN GURDA
John Gurda is a Milwaukee-born writer and historian who has been studying his hometown since 1972. He is the author of 23 books, including histories of Milwaukee-area neighborhoods, industries, and places of worship. The
Making of Milwaukee is Gurda’s most ambitious effort. With 450 pages and more than 500 illustrations, it's the first full-length history of the community published since 1948. Milwaukee Public Television premiered an Emmy Award-winning documentary
series based on the book in 2006.
In addition to his work as an author, Gurda is a lecturer, tour guide, and long-time local history columnist. He holds a B.A. in English from Boston College and an M.A. in Cultural Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Gurda is an eight-time
winner of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Award of Merit. The common thread in all his work is an understanding of history as “why things are the way they are.”
